Photography (pronounced /fәˈtɒɡrәfi/) is the process, activity and art of creating still or moving pictures by recording radiation on a sensitive medium, such as a photographic film, or an electronic sensor. Light patterns reflected or emitted from objects activate a sensitive chemical or electronic sensor during a timed exposure, usually through a photographic lens in a device known as a camera that also stores the resulting information chemically or electronically. Photography has many uses for business, science, art and pleasure. Lens and mounting of a large-format camera. A historic camera: the Contax S of 1949 — the first pentaprism SLR. From Google News Search: "Photography" What kind of photography equipment do I need to start out with? Q. I would like to start a small photography business...nothing major as I am an amateur photographer and am not sure of myself/skills yet. I do think that I take pretty decent photos and have a great passion for photography but don't really know how to begin. What kind of fairly inexpensive camera is a good start? I do have a Sony Digital Camera and a Canon SLR 35mm. Also, what other kind of equipment is imperative when beginning-just to look like you know what your doing? Any help would be greatly appreciated! One more thing before I forget, what is needed to take great photos of food/wine? Is there a special kind of setup that I would need? Asked by yorkiepoo - Tue Apr 24 13:14:07 2007 - - 3 Answers - 2 Comments A. You may not like this answer but it is intended to be honest and helpful. Don't start any business, not even a small one, until you are sure of what you are doing. Apart from the risk to your reputation through failing to deliver you may be liable to losses. Don't buy more kit until you are a little closer to knowing what you want to photograph - make the most of what you have by learning to use it to it's best. Equipment can cost a lot, especially when more specialised - much food photography for example needs larger format than 35mm or high end digital to get published and lighting is essential and expensive. Look at as many good quality published or exhibited pictures of your subject as you can. Visit exhibitions showing your subject… [cont.] Answered by Gerry T - Tue Apr 24 17:24:54 2007 Starting into Photography, What is the best program for editing digital photos? Q. I have been told that Adobe Photo shop is the way to go but I really would like some input before I drop all that cash. I am looking into Portrait and nature photography. I would like to use one program only and I want to be able to do all sorts of things, for instance, adding hints of color to B&W images, changing filters etc... Any input would be helpful. If anyone has used Adobe tips would be welcomed too! Thank you so much. Asked by lil_love1982 - Mon Jan 14 02:33:30 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. I liked and used Corel Photo Paint for several years. Photo Paint is compatible with Photoshop, in that any plug-in you can buy for Photoshop is supposed to work with Corel Photo Paint. The two programs don't work the same way -- so when you're learning one, you're not learning the other. In my opinion, Photo Paint is easier to use, and I prefer Photo Paint's methods for selecting areas/masking. However, there's no substitute for Photoshop. Every photo magazine you pick up has a how-to using Photoshop. There are a million books on Photoshop in your local bookstore. There are several good online tuturials for it, also. You'll ultimately end up using Photoshop one day; there's no avoiding it. For all the things you've said you want… [cont.] Answered by Dr. Bob - Mon Jan 14 03:03:13 2008 How can I start my own photography company?
Q. I'm 16 and I want to start my own little photography company (I guess I can call it that?) Some people around school want me to take their pictures, but I don't know how much I should charge or do what. I want to make some cash, because I don't work, and I honestly don't want to work at the mall or at some restaurant. I have taken photography classes, I am good at it, but I have NO idea where to start at, please help me out here. Asked by suushi.attacks - Sun Feb 1 22:22:37 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. Check around in your area to see what other photographers are charging for what services they are offering. Since you'll likely be taking more casual shots of fellow students and not using a formal "studio", etc. just charge them a reduce value to those going rates by the pros. Have fun ~ I ran a dark room for years and loved it. Answered by Brenda - Sun Feb 1 22:43:52 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Photography" Photography is...
