Stonewall is a census-designated place (CDP) in Gillespie County, Texas, United States. The population was 469 at the 2000 census. It was named for Thomas J. (Stonewall) Jackson, by Israel P. Nunez, who established a stage station near the site in 1870. Stonewall is the birthplace and deathplace of former U.S. President Lyndon Johnson, and his LBJ Ranch (much of which is now the Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park) is located nearby. GeographyStonewall is located on the Pedernales River, in the Hill Country of central Texas, at 30°14′24″N 98°39′36″W / 30.24°N 98.66°W (30.240069, -98.659942). Q. We teach about the struggles of other minorities in history, like women, African-Americans, ect. Living in Texas, I even had courses in college that offer the "hispanic american experience". Yet..nothing about gay history like the Stonewall riots, Harvey Milk, or anything. For most gay/lesbian people, they don't learn about anything in queer culture until college, and even then it's basic biology things like sexual orientation taught in a bio class or psychology class. Maybe a little on gender identity in a sociology class. Do you think this is important? Do you think this is fair? It seems like a pretty good idea to me but I bet a lot of parents would object. Society changes but very slowly. Society might not be ready for gay history in high schools yet. Maybe the way to handle it would be like a sex ed class is handled, where parents have the right to opt their kids out if they don't want them to hear something that might be controversial and/or expand their minds and thinking.
