Race and ethnicity in the United States Census, as defined by the United States Census Bureau and the Federal Office of Management and Budget (OMB), are self-identification data items in which residents choose the race or races with which they most closely identify, and indicate whether or not they are of Hispanic or Latino origin (ethnicity). The racial categories represent a social-political construct designed for the race or races that respondents consider themselves to be and "generally reflect a social definition of race recognized in this country." The OMB defines the concept of race as outlined for the US Census as not "scientific or anthropological" and takes into account "social and cultural characteristics as well as ancestry" using "appropriate scientific methodologies" but not "primarily biological or genetic in reference." Race and ethnicity are considered separate and distinct identities, with Hispanic or Latino origin asked as a separate question. Thus, in addition to their race or races, all respondents are categorized by membership in one of two ethnicities: Hispanic or Latino, and Not Hispanic or Latino. In 1997, OMB issued a Federal Register Notice which provided revised racial and ethnic definitions. Census 2000From Wikipedia under the

Q. Although "hate-crime" legislation has been championed by minority groups in hopes it would discourage racially motivated crime, a recently released FBI crime report reveals that a higher percentage of blacks than whites are charged with race-biased "hate crimes." The FBI's "Hate Crime Statistics" for 1999 show that 2,030 whites were arrested that year for "hate crimes" against blacks, compared to 524 blacks who were arrested and charged with a "hate crime" against whites. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, blacks make up 12.8 percent of the population -- or about 35.4 million of the country's 280 million people -- so, given the arrest rate versus population percentage, the data indicates that blacks are one-and-a-half times more… [cont.] Asked by john haase - Thu Feb 15 23:11:28 2007 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. how did you forget that the F.B.I. statistics show that for every black killed by a white there are 12 whites killed by blacks, and hardly any of these crimes have been charged as hate crimes against whites??? but every black killed by a white was listed as a hate crime??? some thing stinks Answered by verda hb - Thu Feb 15 23:37:02 2007 What is the Census number of caucasian's and african americans in the united states? Q. The nation will be more racially and ethnically diverse, as well as much older, by midcentury, according to projections released today by the U.S. Census Bureau. Minorities, now roughly one-third of the U.S. population, are expected to become the majority in 2042, with the nation projected to be 54 percent minority in 2050. By 2023, minorities will comprise more than half of all children. In 2030, when all of the baby boomers will be 65 and older, nearly one in five U.S. residents is expected to be 65 and older. This age group is projected to increase to 88.5 million in 2050, more than doubling the number in 2008 (38.7 million). Similarly, the 85 and older population is expected to more than triple, from 5.4 million to 19… [cont.] Asked by Nick G - Sat Jan 17 14:14:24 2009 - - 14 Answers - 0 Comments A. The younger generations are taking the place of the older ignorant racists. The younger generation seems to be more intelligent, seeing people for who they are inside, not just looking at the color of ones skin. We see beauty in others and aren't afraid to be close to people of other races. We develop feelings based on a person's spirit and it doesn't matter that they are of a different race. People should be able to love whoever they fall in love with and be happy. All the die hard racists will eventually become extinct like their old ancestors. "Good bye" Yes, there will always be groups of people who want to keep their race pure and will continue inbreeding. But those number are growing fewer and fewer.
