WorkplaceFrequent absence from the workplace may be indicative of poor morale or of sick building syndrome. However, many employers have implemented absence policies which make no distinction between absences for genuine illness and absence for inappropriate reasons. One of these policies is the calculation of the Bradford factor, which only takes the total number and frequency of absences into account, not the kind of absence. As a result, many employees feel obliged to come to work while ill, and transmit communicable diseases to their co-workers. This leads to even greater absenteeism and reduced productivity among other workers who try to work while ill. Work forces often do excuse absenteeism caused by medical reasons if the worker supplies a doctor's note or other form of documentation. Sometimes, people choose not to show up for work and do not call in advance, which businesses may find to be unprofessional and inconsiderate. This is called a no call or no show. According to Nelson & Quick (2008) people who are dissatisfied with their jobs are absent more frequently. They went on to say that the type of dissatisfaction that most often leads employees to miss work is dissatisfaction with the work itself. From Wikipedia under the

Please share your own opinion with me. Asked by Albina A - Sat May 24 04:23:36 2008 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments A. We are hugely affected by our work surroundings! Like you said, we spend so much of our lives there. I have a friend who has had back problems for years just because her old workplace was not at all ergonomically designed - even the chairs were the worst. For a relatively small cost, employers can easily save themselves money in the long run (with employees taking much less time off work) if a bit of thought is put into comfort, plus the workers physical & mental health. Answered by quat_summer1 - Sat May 24 04:30:46 2008 Do you think my leave of absence request will get approved by my boss? Q. Hi all! I decided a while back that I want to take an unpaid leave of absence for three months from my company so I can get in shape and get healthier by losing some excess fat weight that I've been trying to lose for a while. I always lose extra fat weight when I focus on doing so but I can't do it and work crazy hours at the same time. I don't like my job anyway and I probably won't even go back to it after my leave of absence period is over anyway. If my boss doesn't approve my leave of absence request, I decided that I will quit anyway if he doesn't cooperate with me. My question is do you think my leave of absence request will get approved by my boss? Got any ideas of how I can increase my chances of getting my leave of absence… [cont.] Asked by Seeker1898 - Thu Nov 20 07:44:16 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Good luck.
