An architect is trained and licensed in planning and designing buildings, and participates in supervising the construction of a building. Etymologically, architect derives from the Latin architectus, itself derived from the Greek arkhitekton (arkhi-, chief + tekton, builder), i.e. chief builder. A looser usage of Architect is: the translator of the building user's requirements of and from a building into an inhabitable environment. Moreover, the words architect and architecture are used in the disciplines of engineering, e.g. computer software architect; however, in some of the world's jurisdictions, the professional and commercial uses of these etymologic variants, are legally protected from such loose denotations. Professionally, an architect's decisions affect public safety, and thus must undergo specialized training and education, and a practicum for practical experience in order to qualify for and earn a licence to practice architecture; the practical, technical, and academic requirements for being a licenced architect vary (see below). From Google News Search: "architect" Who was the architect who introduced the temporary use of grass to determine sidewalk placement? Q. Years ago, an architecture student told me about a famous architect who planted grass all around his buildings when they first opened instead of pre-designing sidewalks and entrance paths. He waited several weeks until he could observe the natural paths formed by the foot traffic of occupants -- then he designed and built the walkways accordingly. Does anyone know who pioneered this technique? Asked by Larry V - Sun May 18 19:56:15 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. One source attributes this Christopher Alexander when he was a consultant to the University of Oregon. This makes sense (knowing what I know of Christopher Alexander) but I can't confirm. Larry Wall attributes this to the University of California at Irvine: Here is a critique of the idea, without giving a name: Answered by simplicitus - Wed May 21 22:29:37 2008 What type of architect or person do I need to make a desighn for a lunch truck? Q. An architect design and supervises construction of a house. Do civil engineers or construction engineers have role in bulding a house? or for building a house? Asked by Mahdi R - Sat Sep 13 06:42:06 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. When it pertains to a small project such a detached single family residence, the role of the Civil Engineer's scope is limited. I really don't understand why Sagun and Najif assumed the architect has no responsibilities pertaining to the structural design of any given structure. Either they are not in the field or are working with incompetent architects. First off, the architect have to perform the conceptual duties of the Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Plumbing engineers. As an architect, I have to understand site constraints as well as structural challenges. I can be sued by the owner for negligence if I was to supply a drawing that cannot be built. For a residential project, the duties of the Civil engineer is to verify and… [cont.] Answered by spam juice - Tue Sep 16 00:43:38 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "architect" |
