A. Cactus is a city in Moore County, Texas, United States, along U.S. Route 287. The population was 2,538 at the 2000 census. They are way in the panhandle no where close to Houston or really anywhere. Does not look like you will be doing too much shopping there.

Three toed Texas cactus whomper.....?
Q. Several weeks ago I saw on here that a creature has been discovered in Texas. This critter is named 'Three toed Texas cactus whomper'. He/she apparently has the ability to change from green to blue, and vice versa. I have not been able to find out much about this curious thing. Can anyone help?
Asked by Regina (SOC) - Wed Apr 23 09:49:55 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. A three toed texas cactus whomper is basically a new breed of rabbit, it is the Three BOWED texas cactus whomper of which is a critter. Due to radiation and the current litter crisis, this creature is able to change it's appearance to better suit the polluted area and is able to curl itself into the shape of a crumpled plastic bag, it's truely fascinating to watch. For more information, I would suggest sights such as wikipedia and google. There are very few images of such an animal. However, I happen to have in my possession one of them. I may show it to you if you are nice... and have cake

How do I re-plant cactus? I live in south Texas?
Q. I have a freshly broken prickly pear cactus. How long can the stems be out or soil or water. How do I re-plant? Do I let them root in water first?
Asked by Jam M - Sun Aug 31 21:50:25 2008 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Cut off the jagged pieces, preferrably at the smallest diametered part availabe. Allow the cut to heal in the air for 3-4 days, at least. Do not allow hot suntight to hit it, especially not if laying on the ground w/ the flat side of a pad upwards--it will COOK! Perpare the spot you want to plant it, preferably with well-draining soil. After the healing time is over, stand the piece up, set it onto the soil/sand, & prop it up with whatever. There are no roots with which for it to draw up any moisture yet, so the soil shouldn't be wet--not necessarily moist, either, for awhile. After 2-4 weeks --but not if the weather might freeze!-- barely moisten the soil. Let it dry out before remoistening it, to keep mold & mildew from forming & [cont.]

A. I live in Ft Worth I see cactus of all types but usually away from house. I would do mthe corner so it will get some sunlight a way out from wall. I found that Cannas doing well here most anyplace I put them. Just need water hot evenings and actually will come back again after winter and you can thin and start new spot. OURs got 6 ft tall with miracle grow, which we use for everything. Soak a little with roots then add to water for planting then about every 2 weeks , easy instructions on bag. What are the best perennials for Texas?
Q. I live in TX and I can't go by what the plant tag says for whether they will survive or not. If I buy them that say "full sun" they die in full sun because it's too hot. They actually do really well in the shade. My entire front yard is pretty much full sun. I'm not a fan of cactus or anything ugly. Any suggestions on something I can plant that I will not have to replant every year?

A. I live in inland Australia and have the same problem. I have found if I check the label then halve the sun they recommend I don't get into too much trouble eg full sun = half sun, half sun=morning sun only etc. A trick we use here is to plant nursery plants, usually a native to caste shade on the garden beds to get the plants going. The hot afternoon sun cooks my plants so I have large shrubs and trees on that side of the house and this shades my garden in the afternoon it makes a great difference when you create a 'micro-climate'. My summer temperatures go up to105 deg F and winter goes down to20 deg F. Asked by mr_blue_dog - Sun Aug 3 13:21:12 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Well, plants are home to many kinds of animal life, including spiders. I can definitely believe that someone could buy a cactus, take it home then realize that a spider was living in it. But the part with the cactus shaking and the fire department and the hundreds of baby spiders...That was all added for dramatic flair, makes for a more interesting story that people will keep telling others. It is not something that should keep you up at night, though. ;-) Whenever you want to find out about urban legends, check out www.snopes.com. They have all kinds of urban legends up there. And if you don't see what you are looking for, you can email them and they will find out for you.

How do I get rid of bug bites? Or at least stop the itching?
Q. I've got a LOT of bug bites, mostly on my legs, and they feel like I'm running through a cactus patch on fire. I'm not sure what is biting me. I have washed the sheets and I washed my legs in cold water. I bought "extra strength Benadryl itch stopping cream" and it's not working. Please help me! {I'm down in south Texas only for a while.}
Asked by contact_lacie - Fri Oct 17 12:16:52 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. If the benadryl cream isn't working, you can try calamine lotion (the pink stuff). If those don't help a lot, then you may have an allergic reaction to whatever is biting you. OR if they are burning you very badly there is a chance you came across some fire ants... when I first moved down south I did not understand how painful those can be. They make little blisters where they have bit you. Another remedy, and it works if you do it correctly, was given to my mother by a pharmacist when I got a bad spider bite when I was young, and it also works on mosquito bites,... Clorox or any kind of bleach. However do NOT do it if you have scratched the bite, as then the clorox will really hurt! If you have a bite and dab a bit of clorox on it right… [cont.]

Asked by Brian - Tue Oct 17 09:52:53 2006 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. In general mind-altering substances are banned from schools. In fact, most do not allow students to have over-the-counter medications, and require them to go to the nurse for tylenol and the like. Smoking, regardless of what it is you are smoking would seem to be illegal under the age of 18.

Asked by Heavenblqqd - Sat May 16 00:39:40 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Due to the terrible problems with plant diseases, and insect egg infestations, many, if not most, states have agricultural regulations requiring ALL permitted plant materials to have inspection certification. So, to a great extent it depends WHERE you want to ship. With your being in Texas, I think ALL counties have an agricultural extension agent. Call your county courthouse and ask the speak with your Ag Agent. He or she will be able to tell you how to find the correct answers to this and related questions. Not only do the states have these agricultural regulations, BUT there are also FEDERAL regulations. Please, for the sake of protecting our nation's agricultural industry, do not ship any plant materials without learning,… [cont.]

Former employees sue Swift, say meatpacker hired illegal workers to keep wages low what is your assessment ?
Q. Of this. Former employees are suing Swift & Co. for $23 million, alleging the meatpacking company conspired to keep wages down by hiring illegal immigrants. The 18 former employees are legal residents who worked at a plant in Cactus, Texas, north of Amarillo. The plant was one of six facilities raided in a multistate federal sweep that led to the arrests of nearly 1,300 employees and temporarily halted Swift's operations. "These plaintiffs are ... victims in a long-standing scheme by Swift to depress and artificially lower the wages of its workers by knowingly hiring illegal workers," said attorney, Angel...

A. Bravo! Bravo! Good for them! I hope they follow through with this and make this company a good example to other companies! As well, however, we need to hear of many more raids happening and they should be happening big time on a daily basis! If the government wants to show they are serious about enforcing the laws regarding illegal immigration, they need to do more than make one big day of raids of just one company, or else it tells me that they aren't really serious about this. In order to cause other companies and hirers of illegals to wake up and smell the coffee, they have to keep the pressure on and keep the raids happening. Also, might wake the illegals up, too! Then, with no jobs for them, maybe many of them will carry their… [cont.]
