From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A calendar is a system of organizing days for social, religious, commercial, or administrative purposes. This is done by giving names to periods of time, typically days, weeks, months, and years. The name given to each day is known as a date. Periods in a calendar (such as years and months) are usually, though not necessarily, synchronized with the cycles of some astronomical phenomenon, such as the cycle of the sun or the moon. Many civilizations and societies have devised a calendar, usually derived from other calendars on which they model their systems, suited to their particular needs. A calendar is also a physical device (often paper). This is the most common usage of the word. Other similar types of calendars can include computerized systems, which can be set to remind the user of upcoming events and appointments. As a subset, calendar is also used to denote a list of particular set of planned events (for example, court calendar). The English word calendar is derived from the Latin word kalendae, which was the Latin name of the first day of every month. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License What is a good website for me--need a calendar and document sharing? Q. I am in charge of organizing a student, and am looking for a free website to help share class notes, assignments, and calendar events. I was thinking of creating my own website, but that would be cumbersome, so I was hoping to find something more automatic. I would like to be able to sort the notes I post by class, but would like a master calendar so my student can see all events and projects coming up (IE I don't want a calendar for each class) Any suggestions? Or services available to do this? Asked by Avillie - Fri May 22 17:17:24 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments How does the Julian calendar work, and what is it used for? Q. At least I think it's called the Jullian calendar. Asked by aqwaters - Wed Jan 31 18:07:49 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. The Julian calendar has leap days every four years. There are no special rules for every 100 or 400 years. Almost all Orthodox Christian churches celebrate Christmas and Easter according to the Julian calendar. The dates from 1 March 1900 to 28 February 2100 (Gregorian, or common use calendar) correspond to 17 February 1900 to 15 February 2100 on the Julian Calendar. The difference is 13 days, so 14 Feb (Gregorian) is the same as 1 Feb (Julian). When Pope Gregory XIII decreed the new (Gregorian) calendar in 1582, the Orthodox Christian churches decided to keep using the old Julian calendar.
