Has anyone been to enchanted rock in Fredericksburg, texas?
Q. Have you explored the cave found at the back of the big rock? is it dangerous, easy, hard, ok to go through?
Asked by orlandob333 - Sat Feb 24 14:46:42 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments
A. we used to make it an annual trip when I was younger, I have been through the cave many times. There are parts of it you have to crawl through small areas so take a flashlight and dont be afraid to get dirty. Nothing quite like seeing the sunrise from the top of the rock.

What are your top five places to visit in Texas?
Q. My wife and I frequently travel to TX to visit my family. They live in the Houston area. Next time we go there, I'm going to travel to Dallas and do one huge JFK assassination pilgrimage. Going to TX has become something I really enjoy. Here are my five, from bottom to top: 5. Texas state Capitol - Austin 4. San Jacinto Monument/Battleship TX - LaPorte 3. Galveston Beach - Galveston County 2. The Alamo - San Antonio (hint - go late at night when the most of the tourist traps are closed - the lights on the shrine reflect the bullet holes. You can really feel that an intense battle took place) 1. Fredericksburg - Very interesting WWII museum, birth place of Admiral Chester Nimitz, lots of good German restaurants and beautiful… [cont.]

What happened to horse jockey Akili Gray after he had a spill on July 2005? Anyone have any info?
Q. He was in a TB race and his horse fell. this happened in Gillespie County Fair Grounds in Fredericksburg, Texas. I know he was in a coma for like 2 or 3 months after the spill but i have no more info after that.

A. 08/29/2005 : 11:18:43 Well guys we have some good news on Akili. The rehab center where he is at in Austin is continuously looking after him and making sure they do everything they can to help him recover. He is now coughing on his own and starting to hold his head up. The latest tests run on him have showed that both sides of his brain are showing brain waves compared to the hospital saying that half of his brain was gone. This is a huge plus for Akili. This is the latest on Mr.Gray and I will continue to keep you updated on his condition.

Best Texas Wine Trail?
Q. I been around the Fredericksburg Trail, and that was fun. Even been to the Grapevine Grapefest. If you are a fan of Texas wines, and been around on the various trails, which would be the best one?
Asked by oysterStar - Thu Jan 3 00:28:06 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I think Fredricksburg is the best. Messina Hoff has a great tour-so does Llano (wines, not the town.) Next I want to go to the winery near Del Rio but I can't remember what it's called.

Does anyone need a babysitter?
Q. I live in Fredericksburg, Texas and need a summer job!!
Asked by alisoncheers - Fri Jun 2 14:38:36 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. I would say yes, but I live in New Hampshire. If you want to work with kids try applying at summer camps and local elementary schools, a lot of schools have summer school programs or camps...also check the rec dept. in your town, they might be hiring. another thought... check the employment section in your local paper, or the bulletin board at the local library or town offices. I've been there...(: Good luck!

What other records would be available?
Q. I've been researching my ancestors in the Fredericksburg Texas area for some time. I obviously have limited access because most of my research is done online. I have found them in the 1880 census, then again in 1900 in Mason, Texas. What other records should I be looking for other than the typical census, or church records? I currently am registered with familysearch, their new pilot search engine, genealogy. and use all other forums & databases. I am not a Ancestry subscriber because when I've done searches, I come up with the same results I get in the other search engines. So I figured I was going to be paying for the information I can get for free elsewhere.

A. These are the BMD data bases for Texas that you'd get access to with an Ancestry subscription. Title, Name Count Estimate Texas Birth Index, 51,306,945 Texas Marriages, 1814-1909 and 1966-2002, 12,788,875 Texas Divorce Index, 1968-2002, 11,812,296 Texas Death Index, 1903-2000, 7,256,190 Johnson County, Texas, Marriages, 1854-1872, 1,210 Pleasant Hill Cemetery Inscriptions, 1,024 Johnson County, Texas, Cemetery Inscriptions, 285 There are other data bases that are not BMD; obituaries and newspapers, for instance. === It's $159 a year, which works out to $13.25 per month, which is about what I pay for a bottle of wine if we have company for dinner. Your financial situation and taste in wine may be different from mine.… [cont.]
