Hershey is a census-designated place (CDP) in Derry Township, Dauphin County in the U.S. Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The community is located 14 miles east of Harrisburg and is part of the Harrisburg–Carlisle Metropolitan Statistical Area. Hershey has no legal status as an incorporated municipality and all municipal services are provided by Derry Township. The population was 12,771 at the 2000 census. Hershey was originally named Derry Church, Pennsylvania. It was renamed Hershey in 1906 after the growing popularity of Hershey's Chocolate. It is popularly called "Chocolatetown, USA." I actually like the Nestle cocoa more than the Hershey's and my cakes seem to come out with a better flavor with the Nestle cocoa. Hershey's does have the Special Dark Cocoa out on the market now and if you like the hostess cupcake type chocolate cake that cocoa comes very close to the same flavor. I've actually had some of the older people at work say that my cake made with the Special Dark Cocoa reminds them of the cake their grandmothers use to make a long time ago. Enjoy! Q. I need a good place to stay with kids in the Hershey park area. This is our first time going there so any tips will help. I checked out Hershey Lodge already and it is close to 250 a night.
