In biology, a population is the collection of inter-breeding organisms of a particular species; in sociology, a collection of human beings. Individuals within a population share a factor may be reduced by statistical means, but such a generalization may be too vague to imply anything.

Demography is used extensively in marketing, which relates to economic units, such as retailers, to potential customers. For example, a coffee shop that wants to sell to a younger audience looks at the demographics of an area to be able to appeal to this young audience.

What happens to the rate of population growth as population size approaches the carrying capacity?
Q. Characterize the rate of population growth when population size is very small. What happens to the growth when N=K?

A. In natural systems that are well below carrying capacity with no predation or diseases to control growth, populations grow exponentially. Eventually, population reaches carrying capacity and overshoots it. Famine results and population crashes until the system can recover and populations can build up again.

If the total population in America equals to China or India, what are the challenges economic wise?
Q. This question is hypothetical and the economy is base on the current market. My prediction is that America really needs an increase in population and base on current market, we won't be facing any problems like a credit crunch.

A. Ever consider how expensive it would get to live in an America with a population the size of China or India? Or how unpleasant it would be, not to mention the strain on the environment and other resources. The head of a drug company once told me he preferred to arrange financing and do business in Europe than America because America is too short-term in it's thinking. Europeans take longer views and are prepared to wait for an investment to pay off, but in America, corporations only look three months ahead to the next quarterly reports. The other problem I see in America is a lack of education. Sure you have schools, but a lot aren't very good. You don't pay teachers very well and don't seem to value education beyond the job it can get… [cont.]

What percentage of the population preys upon the misfortune of others? To make money off of them?
Q. Does this trait come out in everyone or is it less the 50% of the population? I always thought that we should help the unfortunate and those in need myself. Have I been mislead? Is that not the norm?

A. Selfishness and greed is an unfortunate trait of human imperfection, but it can be recognized, controlled and eventually done away with individually. However, the worldwide economical system has been set up on greed, to live off of others. It is based on greed and love of money, self interest. The hardworking "ordinary" person and those classified as minorities, for what ever reason, are pretty much the ones who get taken advantage of by a system that has been set up to cater to the "upper class big wheels" so to speak, while providing only crumbs for the ones who really deserve better for their efforts. Because of the love of money by the "big shots" of society and a greedy system, thousands of people every year are allowed to be homeless,… [cont.]
