What are semi private horseback riding lessons?
Q. Me and my friend are planning on taking horseback riding lessons. The ranch that we are thinking about going to offer private, semi private, and open lessons. And we were considering private or semi private. But I was wondering exactly what semi private lessons are?

A. Private lessons is one student to one instructor. Semi private lessons is a couple (the number varies from one instructor to another) of students to one instructor. Group lessons is usually 6 or more students to one instructor. You can get results from all of them. Sometimes in a private lesson you will get tired before the end of the lesson and not get full benefits early on. A semi private is nice you get brief "rest" periods and can learn from what the instructor is telling the other students that you may not be doing yourself. Group lessons expand on both these issues, it has far less personal attention to problems and is harder to learn in. What private, liberal arts colleges have an exceptional arts program?
Q. I'm majoring in Studio Arts and possibly French or International Relations. My current school is strong in the liberal arts but their visual arts program is underdeveloped and pretty elementary, so I want to transfer. I feel like I rarely hear about good arts programs at small, private colleges so I'm looking for some suggestions, primarily in the Pacific Northwest but I'm open to anything. Thanks.

A. The small, liberal arts schools that I know have excellent overall academics and strong visual arts programs are on the east coast, sorry. They include: Bard, Skidmore, Tufts (via their relationship with the School of the MFA Boston), Brown (via their relationship with RISD; and like Tufts, maybe big for you, but they really are small unis, relatively speaking), and Carnegie Mellon U (again, a small uni). Those are all very strong. The one I think is dead-on for what you want is Bard. Others you could consider include Smith, Hampshire, Wesleyan, and SUNY New Palz.

How does private health care work in the UK?
Q. Are there separate hospitals for NHS/private patients? If you had private healthcare and were in a serious accident where you needed to be rushed to hospital, would you be taken to the NHS hospital and then transferred or taken straight to your private hospital? What if the injuries were so severe that they needed to be treated/operated on straight away, would that just be done in an NHS hospital? If, say, someone needed a leg amputated, would that be done privately or on the NHS (assuming the person had private health insurance). Would appreciate any information, thank you.

A. I have never understood why ny British person would have private healthcare insurance. In an accident, an ambulance would be called and would take you to the nearest NHS hopsital, where you would be treated under the NHS. if you had a long convalescence you could opt to be moved to a private hospital, but whether or not you choose to take that option depends on whether there is one near you home. If you need a non-urgent treatment for which there is a waiting list on the NHS, then private heath insurance might mean you get seen quicker, and get to choose your specialist or consultant - although he is probably employed by the NHS, You might also be offered a wider variety of treatment options, but personally I can't imagine it's worth… [cont.]
