From Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. The American Standard Code for Information Interchange (acronym: ASCII; pronounced /ˈæski/ ASS-kee) is a character-encoding scheme based on the ordering of the English alphabet. ASCII codes represent text in computers, communications equipment, and other devices that use text. Most modern character-encoding schemes are based on ASCII, though they support many more characters than did ASCII. US-ASCII is the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority (IANA) preferred charset name for ASCII. Historically, ASCII developed from telegraphic codes. Its first commercial use was as a seven-bit teleprinter code promoted by Bell data services. Work on ASCII formally began on October 6, 1960, with the first meeting of the American Standards Association's (ASA) X3.2 subcommittee. The first edition of the standard was published during 1963, a major revision during 1967, and the most recent update during 1986. Compared to earlier telegraph codes, the proposed Bell code and ASCII were both ordered for more convenient sorting (i.e., alphabetization) of lists, and added features for devices other than teleprinters. ASCII includes definitions for 128 characters: 33 are non-printing control characters (now mostly obsolete) that affect how text and space is processed; 94 are printable characters, and the space is considered an invisible graphic. The most commonly used character encoding on the World Wide Web was US-ASCII until December 2007, when it was surpassed by UTF-8. From Wikipedia under the

Using print screen, these pages can be copied and pasted in word / excel / paint etc but are saved as image only. How do you convert this into text / ascii that can be stored in excel rows. Or is there an intelligent software that can scan the image and convert into ascii / text Asked by rrc_21 - Wed Jun 3 09:58:34 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. There are several advance Image Character Recognization softwares available that can obtain readable information from any image and can be saved as text file then you can simply convert that file in excel of Word. but remember that text in image must be recognizable for that software. you must have seen that at the time of signing for email services you are prompted for entering some code by showing some image that contains some numbers and alphabates. to avoid such character recognization yahoo and other mail services destroyes the quality of any image by adding some bump and tilt effects. Q. Hello all, I hope I posted this into the right category, if not, please tell me, lol. I have a document I created in Word, and I want to convert it into ASCII text, but I don't know how. Can it be done? If so, I would more than happy if something were to explain me the steps to converting it. :) Thanks! Thank you, seharness, it worked! :) That's what I thought when I saw the different formats you can save it as, but I wanted to make sure I didn't screw it up..lol Asked by Goodbye - Fri Oct 12 18:01:14 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I believe you are looking for a document that has all the formatting removed. When you save a .doc, docx, rtf, etc with a new name add the extension for text only; txt. For example: my-file.doc would be: File>saveas>my-file.txt I do not recommend that you just change the extension. I do web development and have seen pages not render correctly in a browser. The warnings indicated that the page has incorrect schema or document variable settings. Feel free to IM me for help.
