Cricket is a bat-and-ball team sport that is first documented as being played in southern England in the 16th century. By the end of the 18th century, cricket had developed to the point where it had become the national sport of England. The expansion of the British Empire led to cricket being played overseas and by the mid-19th century the first international matches were being held. Today, the sport is played in more than 100 countries. The rules of the game are known as the Laws of Cricket. These are maintained by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the governing body of cricket, and the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC), the club that has been the guardian of the Laws since it was founded in 1787. A cricket match is played on a cricket field at the centre of which is a pitch. The match is contested between two teams of eleven players each. In cricket, one team bats, trying to score as many runs as possible without being dismissed ("out") while the other team bowls and fields, trying to dismiss the other team’s batsmen and limit any runs being scored. When the batting team has used all its available overs or has no remaining batsmen, the roles become reversed and it is now the fielding team’s turn to bat and try to outscore the opposition. There are several variations in the length of a game of cricket. In professional cricket this ranges from a limit of 20 overs per side (Limited Overs Cricket) to a game played over 5 days (Test cricket). Depending on the length of the game being played, there are different rules that govern how a game is won, lost, drawn or tied. From Wikipedia under the
GNU Free Documentation License How to handle a hiding cricket in my home? Q. I have a handleful of crickets that have snuck into my house. Probably when the kids left the door open or something. When I see them I get rid of them. The problem is that at night, they love to chirp so friggin loud. Yet, as loud as they chrip "Here I am", I sometimes have a hard time finding them. For me, it is very hard to pinpoint the source of the cricket. I can get to the right room, but then just as you think you close in, they stop chriping for a while. It seems like they can "throw thier voice" somehow, making it hard to find them. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to find, or safely exterminate crickets. I am trying to avoid using a ton of pesticides in the house as I have small children. I tried to make a game… [cont.] Asked by needzknowledge - Fri Aug 24 15:54:34 2007 - - 7 Answers - 2 Comments A. I went absolutely bezerk once on a hunt for this annoying cricket in my flat that chirped intermittently. I remember listening for thr chirp, then running to where i thought it was , waiting for a bit till it chirped again, and then thinking he moved. Went on for about a week. Then I realized it was the smoke detector battery warning going off. DOH! Q. I am a mother and my son keeps getting grass stains on his whites they are a nightmare to get off. Does anyone know how to get grass stains out of cricket whites? Asked by orvain - Sun Oct 19 16:21:35 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. I would have to agree with the first poster but with the exception of using Spray N Wash. SHOUT works better. I have 4 kids and have used it since they were all babies. It works wonders for me, including grass stains on whites. It has even removed blood from whites for me. It is best to spray it on well and let it sit overnight to work best.
